Your Personal Data

The University of Glasgow will be what’s known as the ‘Data Controller’ of your personal data processed in relation to the for the Accelerator for Business Challenges and Social Science (ABaCuSS) project. This privacy notice will explain how The University of Glasgow will process your personal data.

Why we need it

We are collecting your basic personal data such as name, email address and contact details in order to:

  • Respond to requests and enquiries from you, which you have submitted via our email address or website contact form;
  • Receive email marketing communications from us where you have consented (subscribed);
  • Where we need to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation;
  • Apply for our internship programme.

We will only collect data that we need in order to provide and oversee this service to you.

Legal basis for processing your data

We must have a legal basis for processing all personal data. In this instance, the legal basis is Consent.

What we do with it and who we share it with

All the personal data you submit is processed by staff at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. We will only share your personal information with the following third parties to assist with the processing of your enquiry to ABaCuSS:

  • Staff members of Oxentia Ltd, the programme management team of Aspect (the funder of ABaCuSS), appointed by the London School of Economics.
  • Trusted third parties such as Aspect member universities and partners.

ABaCuSS facilitates online event registration via our website and on occasion third party websites such as Eventbrite. Personal information may be collected via event registration forms and the type of information collected will vary. We may share registrant information with third parties in association with the event such as hotels, event organisers (including via third party web sites), trainers etc., however we will never pass your details to third parties in order for them to contact you without your express consent.

How long do we keep it for?

We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which we collected it.

We will actively review the information we hold and when there is no longer a customer, legal or business need for us to hold it, data will be securely deleted.

What are your rights?*

You can request access to the information we process about you at any time. If at any point you believe that the information we process relating to you is incorrect, you can request to see this information and may in some instances request to have it restricted, corrected or, erased. You may also have the right to object to the processing of data and the right to data portability.

Where we have relied upon your consent to process your data, you also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you. We will advise you if this is the case at the time you withdraw your consent.

As well as rights of access and amendment referred to above, you may have other rights in relation to the personal data we hold, such as a right to erasure/deletion, to restrict or object to our processing of personal data and the right to data portability.

*Please note that the ability to exercise these rights will vary and depend on the legal basis on which the processing is being carried out. 

Complaints

If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact the University Data Protection Officer who will investigate the matter.

If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are not processing your personal data in accordance with the law, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) https://ico.org.uk/
